NetWorker Survey Results

The first NetWorker Usage Survey for the NetWorker Information Hub ran between March 11 2010 and March 20 2010. During that time there were 211 respondents to the survey, and the results of the survey are now available.

The survey focused on three primary components:

  • Versions of NetWorker currently in use.
  • Host information (number of clients, operating systems, etc.)
  • Licensed features, specifically focusing on modules and core options.

Several lessons were learned in this survey, and based on the excellent responses received, I’m looking forward to conducting more.

  1. Hi Otmar,

EMC were aware of the survey and were happy for me to post a link to it onto the NetWorker online Community. I’ve posted a follow-up pointing to the results. I believe a couple of managers were definitely keen to see the results, and I’ll be happy to discuss it in as much detail as they’d like, as I do feel there’s some valuable information in it for them.

    Cheers,

    Preston.

  2. Preston, awesome post as usual.

One thing I’d add to your section on the low adoption of Homebase…prohibitive cost. I’d VERY much like to have it here at my site, but the licensing, especially in this financial environment, made it very easy for us to put in the “maybe one day” column of our budgeting plans. There’s a definite need for it, but can’t manage it at the premium that’s being charged…

    Thanks!

  3. I was surprised to see as many responses as there were for Mac OS X. We switched to backing up our Mac servers with Retrospect to backing them up with NetWorker about a year ago and have so far been pretty happy with it.

  4. Preston – thanks for this. I’m still digesting but its pretty interesting. That so many clients are Linux for instance was an unxpected. The MYSQL count is also a telling detail. I’m going to make sure some of the PMs see this data.
