NetWorker 7.6 SP1

A short while ago I had a chat with some senior EMC folks about NetWorker 7.6 Service Pack 1.

Obviously being an NDA partner I can’t talk about what’s coming.

I can share my opinion though: this is going to be a big, and very important release, and it’s going to be well worth the wait for a lot of users. I can’t be drawn into discussion over what’s in it, but I do know I’ll need to do a lot of blog articles about features once it’s released!

(I feel compelled given the date I’m publishing this piece: No, this isn’t April Fools, and nor were EMC playing an April Fools on me.)

  1. Hi Preston.

I’m trembling of excitement with NetWorker 7.6.1. I’ve heard about some realy interesting features such as: Scheduled cloning with NMC and Checkpoint restart of interrupted savesets.

Then the vStorage API is very important, I just hope they make it right. Then there are probably some features I don’t know about.

Do you know when 7.6.1 is out?

My best regards to you and thank you so much for your blog.
    Johannes

  2. Preston,

Do you know roughly the timeframe for 7.6 SP1 to be out? I’m making my upgrade plans for the summer (to take a number of my XServes running Mac OS X Server 10.5.8 to 10.6.x), but I don’t want to wind up in a situation where I’m on a newer OS that our NetWorker backup system doesn’t support.

    1. Hi Rich,

Everything/everyone is saying Q3 2010 – and very firmly too. I very much doubt there’ll be any slippage – we’ll definitely see it in that quarter.

      Cheers,

      Preston.

  3. Well guys, I have a copy of NW 7.6 SP1. I’ve install it and it looks really more mature than the earlier releases.
It has enhancements for the already exist functions, beside the new features in the NMC, some exampales:
1- Reports has “Avamar Statistics” and “DataDomain Statistics” in place of “NetWorker Deduplications Statistics”.
2-In the “Groups window” under the “Monitoring Window” it has now two tabs, “Groups” and “Clones”.
3- In the Configuration Window, you will find in the tree view a new Clone user interface option is available for scheduled clone operations.
4- In the “Client Backup Configuration Wizard” there is a new window to configure “Backup Options” for Deduplication and Checkpoint Restart. You can find these new attributes under “General” and “Apps & Modules” tabs of the Client properties.
5- Under “Devices Window” in the tree view, you will find “Data Domain Systems” & “Avamar Deduplication Nodes” in place of “Deduplication Nodes”. Where you can define new kind of disk devices in a very easy way to integrate the work between NetWorker and Deduplication Devices/Nodes…(Nices, I like it).
6- The Media Icons is changed….hahaha
But in the tree view you will be happy to see that “Volumes” has been splitsed to “Disk Volumes” and “Tape Volumes”.

And alot of other enhancements and new features. So people enjoy the new release….;-)
