EMC has been buying so many companies lately that sometimes it’s difficult to remember who did what, and why they might have bought them.
However, this is one to remember – EMC buying Kazeon, a data indexing/eDiscovery company. (The deal was done a short while ago, but I’ve been tied up enough that I haven’t had time to talk about it before now.) I think it’s becoming more and more obvious that data indexing/eDiscovery is the next wave in ILM; in the end, it doesn’t matter how much data we can store if we can’t find it. Like data visualisation, data indexing is just going to continue to grow and become more and more important.
I’m looking forward to seeing the acquired technology make its way into a plethora of EMC products. I think everyone would agree that SourceOne is the first, most likely candidate. After that though, there’s plenty of other embedded or API based opportunities for it in the EMC product family tree.
