If you come across this people try the following exercise: (1) ask them if they own a home / house; if they answer ‘yes’, (2) ask them if they have insurance against it burning down; if they answer ‘yes’, (3) ask them if their house has ever burned down.
If they answer ‘no’ to the last question, ask them why they bothering insurance if disaster has never struck?
This should hopefully clue them into why you need to prepare for disasters in IT. If they can’t make the connection then feel free to explain it to them (or just walk away, since it may not be worth the effort given the intellect involved).
