{"id":11291,"date":"2023-01-16T08:19:17","date_gmt":"2023-01-15T22:19:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/?p=11291"},"modified":"2023-01-16T08:19:19","modified_gmt":"2023-01-15T22:19:19","slug":"whats-new-in-networker-19-8-avamar-19-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/2023\/01\/16\/whats-new-in-networker-19-8-avamar-19-8\/","title":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s new in NetWorker 19.8, Avamar 19.8?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>NetWorker 19.8 and Avamar 19.8 were released in December, and in this post I&#8217;ll run through some of the new and updated features in them both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Avamar 19.8<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As always, you&#8217;ll find all the official details for Avamar over at the core support site for the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dell.com\/support\/home\/en-us\/product-support\/product\/avamar-server\/overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Avamar Server<\/a><\/strong> solution, but let&#8217;s have a quick look at some of the new features you&#8217;ll find in 19.8:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>HTML GUI (AUI):\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>SSO authentication available<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support to recover the replicated copy of a VM as a new VM when the local\/original backup of the VM has been deleted or expired.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support filtering by ESX host name in regulator operators.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avamar Virtual Edition (AVE):\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>AVE now supports being deployed with up to 24 TB usable capacity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AVE now supports VMware 7.1, 7.2 and 7.3.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Client enhancements:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sharepoint backups leveraging TDE encrypted SQL servers now support granular recovery (GLR).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Table level restore of SQL backups for TDE encrypted SQL servers are also supported.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>RedHat Enterprise Linux v9 filesystem backups no longer need the initscript package.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PowerProtect DD support:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>DD Boost API for DDOS 7.9 and 7.10 are also supported by this release.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avamar now supports the Mtree it is using having a hard quota applied.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Major new feature: <\/strong>Avamar now supports <strong>Retention Lock Compliance<\/strong> mode on PowerProtect DD systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NDMP:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Avamar can now browse an Isilon OneFS file system using session-based authentication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Security:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Support for CipherTrust Manager 2.4 when using Avamar in a Cyber Recovery solution.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support for a custom security login banner in AUI.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Virtualization:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Support for backup and recovery of the VM tag information as part of VM metadata.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If I were to name the single most important reason to upgrade your Avamar environments to 19.8, it&#8217;s support for Retention Lock Compliance mode with PowerProtect DD systems. As always, enabling retention lock requires careful capacity planning &#8212; but the net benefit of giving yourself a first line of defence against ransomware attacks cannot be understated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">NetWorker 19.8<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As always, you&#8217;ll find the official details for NetWorker over at the official support site, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dell.com\/support\/home\/en-us\/product-support\/product\/networker\/overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">here<\/a><\/strong>. This includes documentation, installers, and knowledge base articles. Before you head there, let&#8217;s have a look at some of the new features in 19.8:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>vProxy:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Support for adding 2-4 NTP servers during vProxy deployment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support to configure syslog server logging for vProxy during vProxy deployment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support for parallel backup and restore of multiple VMDKs in a single VM &#8211; great if you&#8217;ve got some big multi-disk VMs where you need to maximise backup and recovery operation speeds for. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NetWorker Management UI (NWUI):\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Enhanced support for specifying cloning configuration parameters within the NWUI.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>View full details for capacity or traditional licenses within the NWUI.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NetWorker storage nodes:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The number of Data Domain Boost devices you can configure on any individual NetWorker storage node has increased from 31 to 127.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NFS v4 target device support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cloning:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The NWUI and NetWorker REST APIs now support enforcing chronological ordering when cloning savesets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PowerProtect DD integration enhancements:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>REST API support to trigger Mtree replications from a source to target server.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>REST API support for access to PowerProtect DD <em>Smart Scale<\/em> mobile storage unit (MSU) operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Index backup enhancements:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There&#8217;s now an option to trigger client file index backups immediately after client backups have been completed.
