{"id":1497,"date":"2009-12-15T18:38:03","date_gmt":"2009-12-15T08:38:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nsrd.wordpress.com\/?p=1497"},"modified":"2009-12-15T18:38:03","modified_gmt":"2009-12-15T08:38:03","slug":"fingers-crossed-for-some-new-years-resolutions-from-emc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/2009\/12\/15\/fingers-crossed-for-some-new-years-resolutions-from-emc\/","title":{"rendered":"Fingers Crossed for some New Years Resolutions from EMC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over at <a title=\"Storagebod's Blog\" href=\"http:\/\/storagebod.typepad.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Storagebod&#8217;s Blog<\/a>, Martin Glassborow has been providing a highly interesting and entertaining set of letters to <a title=\"Letters to Father Christmas, Part 1\" href=\"http:\/\/storagebod.typepad.com\/storagebods_blog\/2009\/12\/father-christmas-letters-part-1.html\" target=\"_blank\">Father<\/a> <a title=\"Letters to Father Christmas, Part 2\" href=\"http:\/\/storagebod.typepad.com\/storagebods_blog\/2009\/12\/father-christmas-letters-part-2.html\" target=\"_blank\">Christmas<\/a>, which I&#8217;d highly recommend reading.<\/p>\n<p>So in the spirit of Martin&#8217;s postings, I&#8217;m going to do a slight variant \u2013 here&#8217;s a few things that I&#8217;ll be keeping my fingers crossed for that EMC will provide us in NetWorker in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Dear EMC,<\/p>\n<p>Could you please add to your NetWorker New Years Resolution the following items?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Windows 2008 Service Pack 2 support as soon as possible!<\/li>\n<li>Improvements for ADV_FILE devices:\n<ul>\n<li>Savesets can spill over from one disk backup unit to another should the first become full.<\/li>\n<li>Better rotation\/selection method for devices\/volumes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Tapes:<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to query the &#8220;offsite&#8221; mminfo flag.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Cloning:\n<ul>\n<li>Inline cloning (simultaneous clone + original generation).<\/li>\n<li>Fixing the &#8220;validcopies&#8221; flag!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>NetWorker Management Console:\n<ul>\n<li>Manual client backup and recovery operations integrated into the console.<\/li>\n<li>Manual module backup and recovery operations integrated into the console.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Resources\/Configuration:\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to rename clients (and other resources).<\/li>\n<li>Syntax for including another directive within a directive.<\/li>\n<li>PIDs for nsrmmds stored within the device resource for easy viewing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Operations:\n<ul>\n<li>Client GUI manual backups to support pools other than Default.<\/li>\n<li>More granular savesets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I could think of a bunch of other enhancements, but these are the ones I&#8217;m hoping most are on your new years resolution list for NetWorker in 2010.
