{"id":3498,"date":"2012-01-14T13:50:38","date_gmt":"2012-01-14T03:50:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/?p=3498"},"modified":"2018-12-11T14:51:50","modified_gmt":"2018-12-11T04:51:50","slug":"automedia-management-in-tape-libraries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/2012\/01\/14\/automedia-management-in-tape-libraries\/","title":{"rendered":"Automedia Management in Tape Libraries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A recurring theme on the NetWorker Mailing List is people not understanding how Automedia Management operates in tape libraries.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the complete list of what automedia management does when enabled for a tape library:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>It enables NetWorker to automatically label and use any blank tape (i.e., a tape that does not have a NetWorker label header on it) within the library <strong><em>if and only if<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;there are no other appendable or recyclable volumes in the library to service the pool that requires media.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>It does <strong>not<\/strong>&nbsp;have anything to do with the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Recycling volumes within a pool (this is handled automatically, so long as the volume isn&#8217;t set for manual recycling)<\/li>\n<li>Recycling volumes between pools (this is handled by configuring the pool to &#8220;recycle to other pools&#8221; and &#8220;recycle from other pools&#8221;)<\/li>\n<li>Inventorying volumes as they are added to the library (this is barcode and NetWorker version dependent)<\/li>\n<li>Depositing volumes (this is an operator function)<\/li>\n<li>Withdrawing volumes (this is an operator function)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A recurring theme on the NetWorker Mailing List is people not understanding how Automedia Management operates in tape libraries.
