Sometimes, it&#8217;s perfectly obvious:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4947\" alt=\"Case sensitivity in pools\" src=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool1.png\" width=\"570\" height=\"366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool1.png 570w, https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool1-300x192.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now, we all know there&#8217;s a\u00a0<em>default<\/em> pool in NetWorker, right? Wrong. It&#8217;s the\u00a0<em>Default<\/em> pool, and NetWorker treats pool names case sensitively. When you&#8217;ve been using NetWorker for a while, you get used to that one pretty quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a pool I created the other day in a hurry using <em>nsradmin<\/em> while running some tests against my lab NetWorker server over a VPN. Since I was in a hurry, I didn&#8217;t bother to launch NMC:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4948\" alt=\"Pool case sensitivity\" src=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool2.png\" width=\"568\" height=\"365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool2.png 568w, https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool2-300x192.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 568px) 100vw, 568px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The astute long term NetWorker users amongst you will have already spotted my error. I&#8217;ll explain what I did wrong in a moment.<\/p>\n<p>I had a storage node called &#8216;fawn&#8217; and I wanted to do a backup and clone test against it, so I setup a group for it with the following key properties:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4952\" alt=\"Group cloning pool settings\" src=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool3.png\" width=\"570\" height=\"366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool3.png 570w, https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool3-300x192.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0However, when I ran the group, it terminated with the following error:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4950\" alt=\"Group cloning failure\" src=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool4.png\" width=\"570\" height=\"365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool4.png 570w, https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool4-300x192.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Have you spotted the error? I&#8217;ll point it out to you:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4953\" alt=\"Pool configuration error\" src=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool5.png\" width=\"568\" height=\"365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool5.png 568w, https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool5-300x192.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 568px) 100vw, 568px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s right: I didn&#8217;t create a pool of type\u00a0<em>Backup Clone<\/em>, I created a pool of type\u00a0<em>backup clone<\/em>. While NetWorker recognised it enough to allow me to configure it as the clone pool for a group,\u00a0<em>nsrclone<\/em> balked at it. If you want proof:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool7.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4954\" alt=\"Successful clone\" src=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool7.png\" width=\"570\" height=\"366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool7.png 570w, https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pool7-300x192.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/a>With the pool type changed to the correct capitalisation, the clone successfully ran, first go*.<\/p>\n<p>So there you have it \u2013 a subtle example of where case sensitivity can come into play in NetWorker. You may use NetWorker for 10 years before you come across it, but it&#8217;s definitely worth knowing about it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<br \/>\n* No, I&#8217;m not going to explain how I changed the\u00a0<em>pool type<\/em>.
