From! The! Yahoo! Groups! Dumpster! Fire!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I have to admit, whenever there&#8217;s a news article about Yahoo!, my first thought is &#8220;they still exist?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week was no different when suddenly they mentioned quietly on a support document that they were closing down Yahoo! They&#8217;ve had <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"privacy breaches (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yahoo!_data_breaches\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>privacy breaches<\/strong><\/a> that would make Equifax blanch, and they&#8217;ve regularly become one of those shining examples of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"What Not To Do In Business (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatoday.in\/technology\/news\/story\/5-mistakes-by-yahoo-that-killed-it-954185-2017-01-10\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>What Not To Do In Business<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Likewise, the Yahoo! groups debacle might just serve a lesson to people, not in its utility to so many people since its introduction in 2001 (has anyone told <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Ofcom (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ofcom.org.uk\/__data\/assets\/pdf_file\/0027\/56646\/simwood.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Ofcom<\/strong><\/a>?), but in the most important lesson for public Cloud. In fact, in the spirit of Yahoo!, I&#8217;ll declare it: The! Most! Important! Lesson! For! Public! Cloud!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong><em>If you put something in public Cloud, you&#8217;re responsible for protecting the data.<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Yahoo! groups is likely to be hit by a tsunami of traffic over the coming weeks as people with the nous work feverishly to retrieve and capture a snapshot of the data that&#8217;s there.
