{"id":921,"date":"2009-08-28T10:37:54","date_gmt":"2009-08-28T00:37:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nsrd.wordpress.com\/?p=921"},"modified":"2009-08-28T10:37:54","modified_gmt":"2009-08-28T00:37:54","slug":"networker-and-snow-leopard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/2009\/08\/28\/networker-and-snow-leopard\/","title":{"rendered":"NetWorker and Snow Leopard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was rather pleased this morning to have a friendly FedEx courier drop off Mac OS X 10.6 \u2013 Snow Leopard.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, my first thought was &#8220;will this <a title=\"What does supported mean?\" href=\"https:\/\/nsrd.info\/blog\/2009\/08\/24\/what-does-supported-mean\/\" target=\"_self\">work<\/a> with NetWorker?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m pleased to report \u2013 yes, yes it does. All of the following worked for me using NetWorker 7.5.1:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Recoveries from prior to the upgrade<\/li>\n<li>Backups following the upgrade<\/li>\n<li>Recoveries from new backups only<\/li>\n<li>Recoveries that mixed old backups and new backups<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(That&#8217;s just standard filesystem recoveries &#8211; I don&#8217;t use NetWorker for complete disaster recovery of Mac OS X as I feel that Time Machine is a much more appropriate system for those styles of recoveries.)<\/p>\n<p>So, now we just need to wait for the software compatibility guide to be updated&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Note: The installer is very different under Snow Leopard, and no longer supports the old &#8220;Archive and Install&#8221; option; thus, when you finish the installation, there&#8217;s no need to actually re-install NetWorker; it remains there, and working, from the previous installation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>[Edit, 2009-09-04]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I can report one bit of odd experience with NetWorker under Snow Leopard. I was presenting a training course earlier in the week and wanted to change which hosts could backup the NetWorker client on my laptop. After editing the \/nsr\/res\/servers file I found that the NetWorker client processes wouldn&#8217;t properly restart on the laptop. In the end, I did a new install of NetWorker onto the laptop, which fixed the problem.
