Errata – Updated KVM Backup Script

So, when I was putting together a blog post last week on NetWorker compressed recoveries, I noticed the KVM Backup script I’d put together had a bug in it.

A while ago, I’d updated the savekvm.pl script to include support for tagging backups as coming from a cluster. That way, in an environment featuring multiple KVM servers, you could tag all backups as coming from a single location, making it easier to find virtual machines for recovery when they move around between hosts.

I tested the cluster backup functionality quite a bit, and even did a blog post covering that change. It turned out, what I hadn’t tested, was regular, non-cluster backups after I’d made the change.

Turns out, the original backup type didn’t work.

That’s now corrected, so if you want to backup either clustered or non-clustered KVM virtual machines, the updated Perl script has got you covered.
