PowerProtect Data Manager uses a concept called promotion backups to help you create long-term retention backups. A promotion backup is where a backup in your regular retention cycle is ‘elevated’ to be retained for longer than the normal cycle. Because Data Manager writes to PowerProtect DD series appliances, it can take a fully independent copy in a fraction of the time.
