DevOps and PowerProtect Data Manager

PowerProtect Data Manager is built around a focus on the REST API interface, which makes it ideal for DevOps. Being a product of the modern age, its focus, you might say, is REST API first — rather than something that has been added to a product that grew up in the classic CLI age.

(I’ll admit, I’m not the most savvy developer when it comes to REST APIs. That’s probably because I still prefer coding in Perl over Python, and well, Perl’s REST API processes are a little kludgy.)

Thankfully, you don’t have to rely on me for REST API tips, tricks and examples when it comes to Data Manager though!

Instead, I’d like to draw your attention to the IaC Avengers, a group of experts from the Dell presales team who are passionate about DevOps. They regularly publish videos about DevOps integration with a variety of Dell Technologies products, and of course, that includes Data Manager as well.

They have a growing playlist of Data Manager videos that you can find here, but I’d like to draw your attention to their latest one in particular from Raghava Jainoje and Alberto Ramos that demonstrates data protection as a service by integrating Data Manager and ServiceNow via Ansible:

Data Protection as a Service with PowerProtect Data Manager and ServiceNow

If you’re looking for ways of developing a DPaaS offering to your teams using ServiceNow, this is an excellent introduction to the process. In particular, I’m really impressed with the way they’ve also looked at Microsoft Teams integration for notifications that self-requested backups have been completed.
